5 Things to do in San Francisco

Wednesday, June 15, 2016

San Francisco is a city full of beautiful sights and great activities.  Check out my list of top 5 things to do when visiting this city full of culture.

Walk/Drive/Ride over the Golden Gate Bridge

The most famous bridge and also one of the most photographed things in the world continues to stun travelers everyday. There is a pedestrian walkway if you prefer to cross on foot, but bikes are also allowed on the western side. Don’t forget to wear extra layers as it is super windy on the bridge! We crossed the bridge on a tour bus (see pictures here) and got to see some of Sausalito, a pretty little town on the other side of the bridge.

Ride a Cable Car

Cable cars have been transporting people around San Francisco for the past 2 centuries.  Their familiar bells can be heard ringing from blocks away.  You can see so many spectacular views of the city’s hills on a cable car ride.  Unfortunately, we did not get to ride one because we didn’t have enough time with so many activities that we had planned, but it’s definitely on the list for our next visit to San Fran.

See the Sea Lions

Fisherman’s Wharf is also home to a gang of lazy sea lions that have taken over the docks at Pier 39.  It is a fascinating sight to see and wish you could have the life of a sea lion.  They just lay on the decks and play with each other as all the tourists flock to take pictures of them.

Visit the Palace of Fine Arts

Enjoy a calming stroll around this beautiful Greco-Roman landmark.  It is a great place to relax and forget about work and adulthood as you sit by the peaceful water oasis that surrounds the architecture.  We stopped by here on our Segway tour through the city and were just mesmerized by how unique and beautiful the place was.

Drive down Lombard Street

Enjoy a scenic drive down the crookedest street in the world. The steep, hilly street with sharp curves takes you down past the most beautiful Victorian mansions.  Note, however, this street is a huge tourist attraction, so the area gets backed up with traffic and driving can be super slow.  If you don’t mind getting some exercise you could always take a scenic walk, which is what we did. Don’t forget to pause to catch your breath and take some pictures!
